Have you ever wondered if there was a way to make your own Homemade Dryer Sheets?
Yes?
Well, look no further…I’ve got a quick and easy solution for you that takes like 5 minutes and makes your clothes smell so fresh and clean, you won’t ever go back to regular dryer sheets.
I’ve been making and using these homemade dryer sheets for over a year now and I can honestly say, I’ll never go back.
Whip yourself up a batch today! They’re way more healthier for your family than the alternative but they’re also more economical because you can re-use them again and again…bonus 🙂
So, here’s what you need:
Tear up an old t-shirt or sheet into the approximate size of a regular dryer sheet.
1 glass jar with a lid
1 cup of white vinegar
20 drops of essential oils (I use 10 drops of the Orange Essential Oil and 10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil
)
Shake it all up!
When you’re ready to use…remove one sheet from the jar and throw it in your dryer with your wet clothing.
When your clothes are dry, place the sheet back in the jar to use it again.
That is it! Easy peasy Louiseee!

Just saw your post on Homemade dryer sheets. I’ve never used oils before…or even ever thought about them. But this really caught my interest. So the vinegar doesn’t linger on your clothes? And you can use them with any color of clothing? I am so going to try this! Where do i buy Essential oils? In a health food store?
Your blog is awesome Tina! Keep em coming!
Thanks Dana! You won’t smell the vinegar on the clothes at all. Vinegar actually helps with softening and static so it’s great with that. The clothes smell amazing! I’ll send you a message on where to find the best oils. Hope you guys are doing well and are having a great Thanksgiving!
Hi There!
Love this! Do you have trouble with static at all?
🙂 thanks!
April
Hi April! I haven’t had any problems yet with static. I used to just place a few drops of essential oil on a sock ball and did get static. When I added the vinegar, it was magical…no more static. Thanks for stopping by and please let me know if you try it out 🙂
I always wondered about simply soaking fabric in vinegar as opposed to adding it to the rise cycle. My dryer is in the basement and I can never hear when the rise cycle starts. I’m going to definitely do this! It should work wonders among with my wool dryer balls. 🙂
Hi Jessica ~ Yes, it works amazingly well! I hadn’t thought about the whole “rinse cycle” thing but you’re definitely on to something wonderful! Cheers to static-free clothes! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
I soaked a couple cloths in vinegar and added 20 drops of both essential oils and my clothes smelt like vinegar after i took them out of the dryer?? help? why do they smell so strong?
Hi Trisha, hmm..I’m not sure. Were the clothes completely dry? I would try adding more oil to the vinegar. What brand of oils do you use?
Hi, I was wondering if I could use fresh lemon juice instead of the oil?
I haven’t tried lemon juice yet but have heard that “in the old days” that’s what people used. You can give it a try. Wouldn’t hurt.
Great idea!! Vinegar is one of those “old fashioned” things to use for laundry… before we had boxes and plastic bottles filled with “disposables”… This is such a great idea! I’ve made my first batch!! I made my batch with lavender!! I’m just wondering how long do these last? How often do you “re-charge” them? Thanks for this great idea that will help everyone to cut down on waste!!!
YaY Cheryl! I personally love using the lavender too! I like to “freshen-up” the solution about every three weeks. You’ll just know when the time is right for you. Thanks so much for stopping by Cheryl.
Do you wring the sheets out before adding them into the dryer?
Just a bit.
